Train How You Play

This February, I’m pushing for better mental health in New Zealand.

I’m taking on The Push-Up Challenge to complete 2,000 push-ups between 5–27 February 2026. This is my personal commitment to raising awareness and funds for mental wellbeing in our country.

As a coach and player across Ardmore Marist Rugby, Manurewa Rugby League, and Pacific Island Touch, Rippa Rugby and Tag.

I’ve seen one challenge stand above the rest.
Our kids giving up when it gets hard, and self-doubt taking over.
We train passing, tackling, and fitness.  Game scenarios, breakdowns, position play, scanning and how "I" can contribute as an individual and team player.  But without the mental tools to push through pain and struggle, those skills can fall apart.

That’s why I live by the motto: “Train How You Play.”
This push-up challenge is that mindset in action. It’s not just about strength; it’s about practicing perseverance.

It’s about showing up when it hurts and burns, finishing the set when you want to quit, and building the inner resilience that sports and life demand.

But real change doesn’t happen alone.
I’m asking you to stand with me.

You can:
**Join my team** and push alongside me
**Donate** to help me reach my goal

Every dollar raised goes directly to The Mental Health Foundation of New Zealand, supporting their work to create a future where mental health is treasured, protected, and prioritised.

Let’s build resilience one push up at a time.

Supporting Mental Health Foundation

Funds raised will invested by the Mental Health Foundation of New Zealand [The MHF] in three core areas of mahi:

  • Promoting everyday actions that lift mental wellbeing
  • Providing tools that support people through tough times
  • Advocating for a better mental health system and society

With your tautoko/support, we can build a fairer, more connected Aotearoa where everyone’s mental health is valued and protected.

Whāia te hauora hinengaro kia puāwai ai te hauora tangata - there is no health without mental health.
