About My Challenge

I'm completing 2,000 push-ups in 23 days to raise awareness and funds for mental health. Please support me as I push for better mental health from 5-27 February. All proceeds help the Mental Health Foundation of New Zealand build a future where mental health is treasured, protected and prioritised.

If you don't know me, I'm 64, and recovering from a near fatal heart attack 10 months ago.

I will be doing strict, regular pushups i.e. straight arms when finished, chest on the ground at the bottom to start each one. To make it more of a challenge I'm only allowed one block of 10 minutes each day, unless I miss a day, I can have an extra block the next day. I'll start with 50, ten sets of five, one set every minute. Over the days I'll ramp it up and I'll be aiming to get to five sets of 20, within the ten minutes.

I've just done a benchmark (nearly) max unbroken set of 20 - I probably could have got to 25, but ya know, I have to take it easy ;-). We will see what I can do on the last day.

Supporting Mental Health Foundation

Funds raised will invested by the Mental Health Foundation of New Zealand [The MHF] in three core areas of mahi:

  • Promoting everyday actions that lift mental wellbeing
  • Providing tools that support people through tough times
  • Advocating for a better mental health system and society

With your tautoko/support, we can build a fairer, more connected Aotearoa where everyone’s mental health is valued and protected.

Whāia te hauora hinengaro kia puāwai ai te hauora tangata - there is no health without mental health.
